He had his feet 2ft in the air? Really?
It is an illegal slide under the new rules because he didnt maintain contact to the base, but in no way was this a dirty slide: He initiated the slide way well below before the bag, goes right across 2nd base, his feet are actually under/behind his body thereby avoiding spiking Odor, which he could easily have done. Instead his spikes are facing 1st base, away from Odor and he even goes after Odors right leg, which is not immobilized since he is a righthander and therefore his left leg is firmly planted, carrying all the weight.
Bautista is an asshole, the slide according to the rulebook is not legal anymore, but the only one playing dirty here was Odor. Plus it was just bad play by Odor all around: He could easily have gotten out of the way, keeping his momentum and adjusting to the bad throw to 2nd, he could have easily continued towards the IF. Instead he chose to stand right over the bag to try to complete the dp, which at that point due to the low throw he had very little chance to do....
If you want to see a dirty slide, look at Odors slide vs Giavotella last year, the link is in the other Odor thread here: He slides well passed the bag, which on every single feet first slide has no other reason than to go after the fielder. He leads with his spikes and goes directly at Giovatellas plant leg, which is by far the greater injury risk.
